Please check to see if your question has been addressed in some way here first, before posting a new question. Please alert us here if you have any concerns. If any change was made to your inventory, or has yet to be made and needs to, let us know below. Ask questions below and an admin will be by shortly to answer them and remedy any discrepancies. FAQ: How do I MAKE A CHARACTER?You should know that you must have an APPROVED character before joining into any Role Play actions: Scavenging, Role-Playing, Bartering, etc.
To create a character, you need to go under the Character Design Station on the homepage forum.
Making a new thread in this section will bring up a form that you need to fill out. If you have any questions about this form, please see the How to create a character thread that is stickied in that section. In fact, you should actually read that thread before filling out the form.
There are many fields available to fill out, not all are required, do at your own discretion. You may provide any additional information in the History section of the application that you wish such as a bio.
You will then WAIT until a Staff Member approves, denies, or alters your application.
Once you have a character, you will have a character name and character avatar added to your member profile.
Each person may have up to 2 active characters at any given time. Each character must undergo the approval method before activation. How does the INVENTORY work?Your characters inventory is listed in your signature, below each of your posts. Admins and Mods are the only people who make changes to your inventory. When you join you are given a starter pack of items: a a and a . It appears as such: (1) (1) (1) Any time your character uses a consumable item (food, ammunition, water, matches, first-aid, etc), a mod will remove the item. If your inventory has not been updated and you feel it has been more time than is needed, you may notify a mod through either this thread or directly via PM to kittymunst3r or k80.
Your character may only use items from their inventory, or items offered for use by another character in RP.
Fashioned items. If your character fashions an item from found objects, i.e. decides to make a spear from a rock, knife, and tree branch, they need to make this known to a mod or admin through Scavenging_Details>Item_Fashioning, via PM to kittymunst3r or k80, or in the Bartering Hall. This item will then be added into their Inventory. (If the item makes sense, the materials used should have been in their Inventory or easily and reasonably found in their surroundings, and make sense in the way they were combined or utilized.)
***Items that expire or are run by batteries or ammunition track uses remaining using asterisks (*) If uses remaining is greater than 5, it is represented as such: (*7) (batteries last 7 uses) and after using 4 times: (***)
How do FASHIONED ITEMS work?If your character fashions an item from found objects, i.e. decides to make a spear from a stone, knife, and tree branch, they need to make this known to a mod or admin through this thread, via PM to kittymunst3r or k80, or in the Fashioning_Items thread under Scavenge. This item will then be added into their Inventory. (If the item makes sense it will be added to their inventory, the materials used should have been in their Inventory or easily and reasonably found in their surroundings, and make sense in the way they were combined or utilized.)
Most items are granted. Only in extreme cases of absurdity will the items be denied. I.E. I took a and lit my on fire, which made an effective band-aid for my wound. That would never happen. So it would be denied. + + 1/4 would reasonably result in (1) and (3/4) though. It's all common sense.
Fashioned items can also be traded in the Bartering Hall.
If a Fashioned Item is to be immediately used up/consumed, this item does not need to be reported to admins. How do I use the ITEM ICONS?Instead of saying: I used 2 matches, you can say: I used 2 using item icons!
This works by typing "", or i before each item's title. If you are unsure of a title, you can check it on the Known Items page.
How does SCAVENGING work? This is where we throw in the challenge, the realistic element to the apocalypse. Before your character scavenges in RP you should come here to determine what they will walk out with, or be met with instead.
There will be 20 options, each with a number value of 1-20, updated weekly with new options.
Your character must scavenge any items that play a role in survival, like food, medications, extra clothing, first-aid, water, and weapons (unless your character can fashion the weapons out of found materials, like sticks, rocks, animal bones, etc.) before using them in play.
If your character uses any un-scavenged items that they did not receive in their starter kit, barter for, or by having another character offer them, they will be punished through a random scenario (attack by zombies, rabid animals, etc.) or looting of items your character does own by marauders.
How do you scavenge, you ask? In a posted reply to the scavenge thread, you insert the code given in the thread which rolls a 20 sided virtual dice, and gives you your result which looks like this: [dice=20]
You may only roll once per character, per day. If you accidentally roll more than once in a day for one character, only your first result will be counted.
As soon as the day's date has changed, i.e. you scavenged at 11:00 pm on the 14th, you may scavenge again at 12:00 am on the 15th even though it has only been an hour.
After your character states in RP that they found the item, it will be added to your inventory. How does HIGHWAY SCAVENGING work?During RP, you character must venture away from your RP thread location onto the highway (and please for the love of the RP gods, make this natural)
After reaching the highway you roll a 6-sided dice in the thread, and the result is what you find on the highway.
You then return to any RP location thread and talk of your journey there, and your scavenge, what you encountered, what you found.
Items are added to you inventory AFTER they are mentioned by a character as being found.
How does EXTRA SCAVENGING TRIGGERED BY ROLEPLAY work?At times it may become appropriate for your character to scavenge around for important RP-related items.
**IF YOU DO THIS YOU ARE SACRIFICING YOUR RIGHT TO SCAVENGE IN THE SCAVENGE THREAD FOR THE DAY**
**EXCESSIVE USE OF THIS OPTION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED**
And example of this is in the early events of the University Campus page, where character Alex had a needle lodged in his back, and character Cristoff had a life-threatening injury and needed pain medications. Character Alice chose to venture out and scavenge the medical center for supplies to aid them. ( a and a pair of ) Here is the precedent set by this action for this type of Scavenging:
Alice/ went out to scavenge, events continue without her in RP, her posts are her adventure scavenging
Alice/ recalls the items that she is looking for, encounters dangers
Alice's Owner/ goes to the SCAVENGE thread and posts the following:
- Roll 4 = Tweezers
- Roll 3 = Pain Meds
- Roll 1 = Both
Alice's Owner/ then types the dice code for a roll 6-sides, dice=6 in brackets.
If she lands on any number she listed, Alice/ finds that result, if she lands on any number not listed, Alice/ returns empty-handed.
You may only have up to 3 options, giving you no higher than a 50/50 chance of getting what your character is looking for.
How do STATUS EFFECTS FROM SCAVENGING work?So your character rolled a dud and now you've been sentenced to some horrible illness or setback?
Majority of Status Effects need an action on your end. If, for example "an item of your choosing" is removed, you must select the item to be taken out of your inventory.
If your character experiences an Injury or Illness, they will have a time limit to gain a certain cure or first aid combination. You may exchange items within the time limit on the Scavenging>Status_Effects thread, by posting that you have the needed items. You must notify us there for the status to be removed.
These statuses should also be represented in your RP, if you are injured (you usually get to choose the injury to go with your RP), you need to include this somehow as you RP, i.e. a limp, cough, sneezing, etc.
Remember, scavenging is always a risk, risk for reward and what risks your life today may bring you a shotgun tomorrow. How does TRADING IN THE BARTERING HALL work?To begin a trade sequence, you will either be the initiating party or the offering party.
To become an initiating party you will create a new thread under "Bartering Hall". The title should summarize what you want and what you are willing to offer, or one of either. EX: "WANT 1 OFFER 1 or 1 " EX: "WANT 1 " EX: "OFFER 1 GIVE OFFER"
To become the offering party, you will find a thread that has already been started. Let's say you went to "OFFER 1 GIVE OFFER" and wanted that . You can offer anything you want in exchange for this . Say you want to offer 3 . You would reply to the post as such: OFFER for 1 3 Matchstick
You would then wait for the party to accept or deny your offer.
To complete a transaction, the Initiating party needs to quote the post they accept the offer from and state "ACCEPT". It will appear as such: Exampleina said:
ACCEPT.
The transaction will then be completed by a mod/admin with the inventories of both parties altered accordingly. They will then lock the thread.
You do not need to work this transaction into RP, although you may if it is fitting to you. Bartering transactions are automatic, your items are now exchanged, and inventories will be updated.
*Any time changes are made to your inventory, you are notified via Personal Message to your account by the admin/mod that made the change, with links to posts that resulted in the change.* [rand=8327316399663687910615462576970550473393034189947134259915910661]
